I have a weanling about 8 months old. About 6 weeks ago, I was informed that her 4 ankles were swollen and the vet said she had OCD lesions. They have taken her off pasture and stopped her grain and put her in a small pipe pen. About 3 weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go and inspect her myself. At that time, the front 2 ankles appeared to be back to normal, but the hind ankles were still swollen, the right hind especially. Can your OCD pellets help, and if so, in what way?
Your response is appreciated.

Bob,
This appears to be a case of epiphysitis which occurs (in most cases) due to high levels of protein, so you were correct in decreasing her feed intake. OCD Pellets are very effective in these cases as they prevent inflammation and OCD lesions by providing the nutrients required for the formation of a strong bone matrix which in turn prevents the inflammation of the bone which you are seeing. This swelling will resolve in time by restricting the feed intake. However, this tells me your filly is experiencing a nutritional deficit and the bone matrix is being compromised. Adequate nutritional support with OCD Pellets will prevent this from occurring while still permitting continued growth.
Thank you for your interest in OCD Pellets. Have a great day!!
