Dr. Beebe,
We have used OCD with great success in the past. We have just learned our very promising 2 year old colt in training has suffered a fracture to the left knee. It appears the fracture is not displaced and the vet is suggesting stall rest and not surgery. We immediately started him on OCD. My question is: do you have a recommended diet in conjunctionwith the regimen of OCD?
Jim,
Be sure to feed a diet high in Fat – you will probably need to add a fat supplement (corn oil) to your feed. Normal feeds contain 4-6% Fat along with 12-14% Protein. This leaves approx. 80% Carbohydrates which are in the form of corn, molasses, etc. Try to feed less sweet feed and more cracked oats along with the oil. This will help with the OCD Pellets to form a better bone complex.
Respectfully,
Dr. D.R. Beebe
