I have a thoroughbred filly that I bought at the Saratoga Preferred Sale and she has OCD in both hocks. My vet is going to do the surgery next week and he said she could be back in training in about 6 weeks. I pinhook for a living and I was wondering if having OCD lesions will reduce her value greatly and will she be able to become a broodmare later in life. I am very concerned as I paid quite a lot for this filly.
Thank you,
Joe
Joe,
As a pinhooker, I am sure you know OCD lesions certainly decrease the value of any horse, regardless of breeding. You have a filly so there is some residual value as a broodmare. However, I have several pinhookers that ask for OCD Pellets in order to resolve the lesions in horses they have purchased and are preparing to sell in future sales. The OCD Pellets will, in more than 90% of the cases, resolve OCD lesions and prevent the need for surgery. Should you decide to have surgery, OCD pellets will certainly help post-surgery as this is a period when there is a great deal of bone remodeling taking place and the nutrition available from the OCD Pellets will certainly aid in the formation of a strong bone matrix, along with preventing the development of arthritis within the joints.
Thank you for your interest in OCD Pellets. Keep me informed as to how things are going.
Have a great day.
Respectfully,
Dr. D. R. Beebe
